Dementia - Alzheimer’s Disease

A

Most common form of Dementia
- Build up of proteins in and around brain cells. Thus inhibiting messages being transmitted between cells - leading to impaired brain function

Vascular Dementia

A

Often resulted from a stoke, a reduced blood flow in the brain leading to less oxygen and nutrient uptake by brain cells. Thus cell functioning is impaired

Caused by proteins known as Lewy bodies inside the nerve cells of the brain which result in the degeneration or death of nerve cells
