what is the treatment for dementia?
mild-moderate, moderate-severe, aggravation
mild-moderate:
-acetylcholinesterase inhibitors
~donepezil=neuroleptic syndrome
~rivastigmine=gastrointestinal side effects (reduce in transdermal formulations)
~galantamine=stevens-johnson syndrome
moderate-severe:
~memantine
aggravation treated with antipsychotics
what are the side effects of dementia treatment?
these medication work on acetylcholine enzymes so increased acetylcholine leads to parasympathetic side effects
-diarrhoea
-urinary incontinence
-muscle weakness
-bradycardia
-bronchospasms
-emesis
-lacrimation
-salivation
what should be used to treat Parkinson’s in dementia?
rivastigimine
