what is the aim of the visit?
px leaves w/ denture that is a good and accurate fit is comfortable they are able to insert and remove they know how to clean understand what to expect with a new denture what the risks of bad maintenance is
how should the dentures be returned?
on the master casts
ideally on articulator
assess if any errors since try in
what should you check when looking at the dentures on the articulator?
design is as requested examine for roughness/blebs check it seats properly undercuts- any teeth on cast broken, difficult to remove? is pin on table does occlusion look correct
how should you remove the denture from the cast?
carefully
not a lot of force
think about path of insertion and removal
-will be same for mouth
how should you check the fit surface before insertion?
gloved finger
-feel for lumps, bumps, rough sharp areas
remove excess acrylic with an acrylic bur in a straight handpiece
small localised adjustments
what is done after you insert the denture?
listen to px
they will tell if there is a sharp area on the acrylic
use pressure indicating paste
-ask px to close into ICP
-areas of pressure visible where no remaining paste
adjust acrylic in these areas
what should you check with the dentures in?
fit -seats fully no rests prout retention -clasps engaging undercuts? stability -does it rock aesthetics -incisal plane, shade, mould, lip support, smile speech -altered at first -excess saliva occlusal contacts
how should you check occlusion?
do teeth meet in prescribed occlusal scheme
use thin articulating paper to identify
-premature contacts
-deflective contacts
small occlusal problem->chairside adjustment
