Types of Delegated Legislation - Orders in Council (description and example)
A
- Made by the King and Privy Council.
- They can dissolve Parliament before an election, bring an Act of Parliament into force, be used in the event of an emergency and be used to make UK laws comply with EU directives
- Emergency use = Emergency Power Act 1920 enabled The Terrorism (United Nations) Measures 2001

A
- Made by local authorities through Local Government Act 1972
- They are used for traffic control/parking restrictions and be made by public corporations and certain companies.
- Railways Act 1993 enabled the smoking ban in London Underground.

A
- Made by Government ministers under the authority of an enabling act
- They can be used to update and adapt the law to changing circumstances or bring an act, or parts of it, into effect by means of a Commencement Order
- Police and Criminal Evidence 1984 enabled the Police Codes of Practice
