To evaluate the FUNCTIONALITY OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.

What are the INDICATIONS for DTH Skin Testing?
- to evaluate the immunity of patients with possible immune deficiencies.
- to assess the immuno-competency of Malnourished patients.
- to asses patients for possible chemotherapy
- HIV staging
- Pre-Post surgery for patients to assess level of infections risks.
Antigens used and strengths for DTH?
First Strength
Purified Protein Derivative (PPD)
-5 Tuberculin Units (TU)
Candida - 20 Protein Nitrogen Unit (PNU)
Second Strength
- PPD - 5 TU
- Candida - 200 PNU
DTH Skin Testing time interval?
Reactions starts at 24hrs
Peak at 48hrs
Subside at 72hrs
Dose Administered for DTH Skin Testing?
0.1ml
Patient Screening for DTH Skin Testing
- Past positive reactions to PPD
- History of BCG vaccine
- Ask patient if they can return to clinic 48-72hrs after placement
- If they are taking any steroids or receiving radiation therapy.
- Live vaccine in the past 28 days?
Procedure to place DTH skin testing?
- Verify order
- Check expiration dates
- Draw up appropriate DHT antigens
- Pick site
- Clean with alcohol
- Mark with skin marker
- Inject 0.1 ml ID
Patient Instructions for DTH skin testing?
No!!!! Scratching, Rubbing, Agitating, lotions, oils, Soap, colognes, perfumes and Bandages.
DTH reading
- Must palpate
- All readings are measured induration by induration and recorded in mm
- 5mm or greater is considered positive
CAUSES FOR False NEGATIVE results for DTH?
Too young or old
No prior exposure
Active viral infection
Solutions are weak or outdated
Improper placement
Recent live virus
