When do a group of trees become a forest?
The FAO detention is defined as 0.5 hector coverage by trees higher than 5cm with a canopy cover of more than 10%
Does NOT include agricultural and urban land areas
Primary (old growth)-
primary are intact forests who have been untouched by human injured activity for centuries and are still dominated by natural forests, these forest s are 34% of our planet
Secondary (re growth) -
-these consist of natural species but they have been relatively disturbed by human activity and have been allowed to regenerate naturally or humans have interfered in their development such as re planting, 59% coverage
Plantations (monocultures for human use )-are a monocultures of nature or non-natural trees planted for the commercial production of particular species, these are planted for food sources. Cover 7%
