Definitons Whole Year Flashcards
Energy
The ability to do work
Potential energy
Energy that is stored in readiness to be used
Kinetic energy
The energy of a moving object or body
Principle or conservation of charge
Energy cannot be created or destroyed and can only change into another form
Work
The product of the displacement and the component parallel to the displacement
Power
The word done per second/the rate of work done
Compound
2 or more atoms of different elements chemically bonded in a fixed ratio
The law of conservation of matter
Matter can not be created or destroyed therefore when we write a chemical equation we need to balance it
Electric charge
An excess (negative) or deficiency (positive) of electrons
Current
The rate of flow of charge
Electric current strength
A measure of how quickly the charges are flowing
Resistance
A materials opposition to the flow of electric current
Gravitational potential energy
The energy an object possesses due to its position relative to a reference point
Voltage potential difference
Energy per coulomb of charge
Ohms law
The current through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across a conductor at a constant temperature
