Q

The Degree of a polynomial …

A

is the highest degree of its terms. Example: For 2t^3+1-t^5, the term with the highest degree is -t^5 so the degree is 5

Q

Leading term and leading coefficient:

A

The leading term of a polynomial is the first term when the polynomial is in standard form.
The leading coefficient of a polynomial is the coefficient of the leading term.
The coefficient of a term is the number multiplying the variable.
(When there is no variable, the coefficient is the term itself.) For our polynomial, the leading term is u^3 , which is equal to 1u^3 . So, the leading coefficient is 1.

Q

What is a prime number and what are the first six prime numbers?

A

A number that can only be divided by 1 and it’s self is called a prime number. Examples of prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and 13. The number one is not considered a prime number because one goes into everything.
