Dramatic Monologue
Lyric poe, in which a speaker addresses a silent or absent listener in a moment of high intensity or deep emotions as if engaged in private conversation
Speech by one character with other characters on stage
Dialogue
Written conversation between two or more characters.
Soliloquoy
Long speech alone on stage
A speech in which a character speaks his or her thoughts aloud
Aside
Only a few lines or a few. Not all characters hear the speech
Creates dramatic irony when audience knows something characters do not
Stage directions
A play typically includes instructions called stage directions, which are usually printed in italic type.
Tragedy
Presents the downfall of dignified character. Going to end badly for the character
Tragic flaw
Events in a tragic plot are set in motion by a decision that is often an error in judgment on the part of the hero
Act
Major division within a play, similar to a chapter in a book. Could be decided even more into smaller sections called scenes
Scene
In drama, the actions is often divided into acts and scenes.
Foil
A character who provides a striking contrast to another character. Using foil, a writer can call attention to certain traits possessed by a main character or simply enhances a character by contrast.
