Definitions Flashcards
Hookes Law
Extension of a stretched object is proportional to the load or force
Elastic deformation
Material returns to its original shape and size once the force is removed
Plastic deformation
Material is permanently stretched
One coulomb
Amount of charge that passes in 1 second if the current is 1 ampere
Volt
Potential difference across a component is 1 volt when you convert 1 joule of energy moving 1 coulomb of charge through the component
Ohms Law
Provided the physical conditions such as temperature remains constant the current through the ohmic conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across it
Power
Rate of energy transfer
Kirchoffs first Law
Algebraic sum of currents at a junction is zero
Kirchoffs second Law
Around any closed loop in a circuit the sum of the emfs is equal to the sum of pds
Coherent
If have same wavelength and frequency and a fixed phase difference between them
Stationary waves
Superposition of two progressive waves with the same frequency moving in opposite directions
