Definitions Flashcards
Observing
Starting point of gaining knowledge
Analyze
To examine
Aim
Vague doesnt include result
Qualitative data
Descriptions, non-numerical
Quantitative data
Numerical data, can be measured
Continuous- decimals
Discontinuous- exact values
Inference
Coming to a conclusion on existing knowledge
Tentative
Basic results that may or may not be accurate
Variable
A part of an experiment that can be altered
In/dependent variables
Independent - variable that is intentionally changed
Dependent - variable that changes as a result of the independent variable changing
Fixed/control
Fixed - all variable are kept constant
Control - apparatus where independent variable is not changed
Validity
- Are all variables kept constant
* Is only one variable tested at a time
Reliability:
- If repeated will the experiment remain the same
* If the sample size is increase will the result remain the same?
