episodic and tonic signalling
satiation and satiety within one meal (epsiodic) or over a long period of time (tonic). Episodic control of eating is the tri daily cycle of biochemicals that make you eat and feel full, while tonic signals attenuate the strength if the episodic ones by letting the brain know how much energy it has stored at any one time.
cephalic phase, gastrointestinal phase, nutrient phase
cephalic phase- drivers to eat, taste perception and culminates in swallowing
gastrointestinal phase- stomach and intestinal transit of food, including mechanical movement and subsequent horonal correlations of the food
nutrient phase- absorption of nutrients into the blood stream and what happens to these products within the body in terms of storage, utilization and effects
