Definitions Flashcards
What is motion?
When an object changes place or position.
What is speed?
The distance an object travels in a certain amount of time.
What is Velocity?
It is speed with a direction. Such as 125km/hr Northwest, 125km/hr is not velocity. Still calculated the same as speed.
What is Acceleration?
The rate of change in velocity, can be either a change in speed direction or both. [Deceleration is when it has a negative value.]
Used with the unit meter/sec/sec or meter/sec-squared
What is Inertia?
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion. [The greater the mass of an object the greater it’s inertia.]
What is Terminal Velocity?
The steady speed achieved by an object freely falling through a gas or liquid
What is Momentum?
A measurement of an object’s motion.
What is a Scalar Quantity?
A quantity that has a magnitude but no direction.
eg. speed, temperature, mass, energy etc.
What is a Vector Quantity?
A quantity that has both magnitude and a direction.
eg. Velocity, weight, momentum, force etc.
What is Electricity?
The flow of electrons through a circuit
