Definitions Flashcards
Analogies — Relevance
To what extent does characteristic X, Y, Z imply characteristic P
Analogies — Significance
To what extent are A and B analogous? Are there any exceptions or key dis analogies that negate the similarities?
Generalisation — Number
How large is the sample (in relation to the population)?
Generalisation — Variety
How many variations of the category are there in the sample (in relation to all the variations in the population)?
Generalisation— Significance
How strong is the connection between the category (what is observed) and the observed property (the characteristic)? What is the most significant limitation of this generalisation?
Characteristics for a strong inductive argument
The truth of the premises makes it highly likely that the conclusion of the argument is true (a weak inductive argument would be the opposite of this).
