Definitions Flashcards
Role Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) play in treatment
Main goal to improve appropriate behaviors while reducing difficult behaviors
Begin a functional behavior assessment (FBA)
Issue behavior and it’s features must be identified to conduct an FBA
Distinguish good reinforcement from negative reinforcement
NR involves removing unpleasant stimulus to enhance chance of behavior, in contrast, PR includes introducing desired stimulus
Antecedent
Stimulus/event that takes place just before a behavior
Consequence
Immediate sensation/event after a behavior
Trial-based functional analyses
Aim to accomplish/determine a behavior’s function in a controlled environment
Distinguish continuous reinforcement regimen from an intermittent one
IR schedule involves reinforcing a behavior only sometimes, CR schedule involves doing so each time it occurs
Naturalistic teaching methods and discrete trial training (DTT) differ
DTT, a structured teaching approach that breaks down skills into small, discrete steps. NTM, less structured and concentrate on teaching skills in the context of individual’s natural environment
Extinction
Process of depriving behavior of reinforcement in order to reduce frequency of behavior
Response prompts and stimulus prompts differ from one another
SP includes changing surroundings to make correct reaction more obvious. RP entails giving additional indications to aid someone in emitting the appropriate response
Trends
Act of shaping is the reinforcement of successive approximations of a target behavior
Chaining
Process of breaking down complex behavior into smaller, more manageable parts
Distinguish preference evaluation from reinforcer evaluation
PA entails determining person’s preferred objects/pursuits. RE involves determining objects/pursuits that serve as reinforcers for certain behavior
