If working outdoors you should be protected against bad weather, noise, slippery conditions etc
Define an accident

Results in physical harm, injury, disease to an individual, damage to property, a near miss, a loss or any combination of these effects
Define hazard

Anything with potential to cause human injury or damage
Can include objects, substances, machines and work methods

But had potential to be serious
Define risk
The likelihood that someone will be harmed by the hazard, together with the severity of the harm suffered
Define risk assessment
The careful examination of what in your work could cause harm to people so that you can evaluate if sufficient precautions have been taken or if more are needed
What are some duties of employees?
Take reasonable care to protect S, H +W of self and others
Not under influence of intoxicant to a state as to endanger self or others -> includes drug use
Co-operate with employer or other persons to enable compliance with relevant statutory provisions
Not engage in improper conduct or behaviour likely to endanger S, H + W of self or others
Attend such training (and undergo assessment) as may be reasonably required by employer or as prescribed relating to health and safety, as relating to work carried out by employer
Define accreditation
Accreditation in healthcare is defined as professional
and national recognition reserved for facilities that
provide quality healthcare.
This means that the healthcare facility has sought to be
measured against high professional standards and is in
substantial compliance with them
A procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition that a body or person is competent to carry out specific tasks
Based on compliance with international and European standard
Define a standard
A document, established by consensus and approved by
a recognized body, that provides, for common and
repeated use, rules, guidelines or characteristics for
activities or their results
Define a procedure
A procedure is a defined way of progressing a course of
action or policy and is often called standard operating procedure or
SOP. Each laboratory has its own individual procedures (some
management procedures e.g. training, validation, measurement of
uncertainty and laboratory SOPs)
Define a form
These are the documents on which records are made that
provide the evidence that a procedure and/or related instructions have
been carried out and are a crucial part of quality management. Forms
for recording training, validation, IQC, batch acceptance, temperature
monitoring etc. provide evidence of compliance with procedures
Define a non conformity
A non-conformity is an event, incident or action that does not conform or
comply with the organisation’s stated procedures, policies or accreditation
standards
Define bad practice
Failure of a professional to use the degree of skill and learning commonly expected in that individuals profession, resulting in injury, loss or damage to the person receiving care
