Definition of “Cultural Control”:
A preventative measure to avoid weeds/pests/diseases in the first place, without the need for chemicals.
Definition of “Physical Control”:
A measure to ensure plant health using manual assistance, to avoid spread of pests/diseases to other plants, without the need for chemicals.
Definition of “Biological Control”:
A measure which introduces predators and parasites to control pests (rarely diseases), without the need for chemicals.
Definition of “Chemical Control”:
A measure which uses organic and inorganic compounds and products that are able to kill weeds, pests and diseases.
Definition of “Plant Disease”:
An unhealthy condition in a plant, caused by a pathogenic fungus, virus or bacterium.
Definition of “Garden Pest”:
An animal that causes damage to plants through predation or parasitism.
Definition of “Plant Disorder”:
A plant problem that is abiotic - i.e. not caused directly by any biological agent (pest/disease)
