Definition Flashcards
Muscular endurance
The ability of muscles to continue an activity over a long period of time without trying
Flexibility
The range of motion around joints; or how freely a group of joints can move
Cardio respiratory fitness
Ability of the body’s circulatory and respiratory systems to supply fuel during sustained physical activity
Body composition
The tissues that make up the body which includes bone skin muscles organs and fat
Body mass index
A method of assessing or measuring body composition using age height and weight
Core strength
Strengthen the muscles of one’s trunk (back side and stomach) that help maintain good posture
Dynamic stretching
Stretching that involves active movement
Heart rate recovery
How quickly one’s heart rate slows to a normal or desirable rate after exercise
Maximum heart rate
Measures how fast your heart should be or contract in one minute
Overload principle
Doing more physical activity than one normally does in order to achieve improvement in ones fitness
Progression
Gradually increasing the intensity of a workout to avoid injury or overtraining
Repetitions
The number of times an exercises performed
Resistance
A force that acts against muscles (dumbbell or bodyweight)
Resting heart rate
The number of times your heart beats per minute when your body is at rest ideally should be taken before you get out of bed in the morning
Specific principle
Training that should be relevant and appropriate to the exercise or activity or simply in order to improve at a skill or exercise you must perform that skill or exercise
Static stretching
A slow sustain stretch of a muscle while stationary
Target heart rate
An estimated range of how fast your heart should be beating when you exercise to improve your fitness level
Muscular strength
The amount of force a muscle can exert one time
