  • Emotional wellbeing refers to our ability to express emotions appropriately and regulate, manage and control emotions when needed.
  • People who have high levels of social and emotional wellbing have more stable mental health.

  • Resilience is the ability to cope with adapt to life stressors and consequently restore positive mental functioning,
  • Resilience can be shown through adjusting to the stressor (accept it) or through overcoming the stressor (addressing and fixing issue)
  • People who show resilience tend to be more content, higher self-efficacy, optimistic etc (protective factors)

people may have mental disorders that make it difficult for them to provide informed consent as they do not understand all elements of the study ie decline in cognitive functioning

guardians etc can provide consent on the patients behalf but it is no way acceptable to pressure patients to take part.
