Defibrillators Flashcards
Atrial Flutter
very rapid (150-250/min) electrical discharge and contraction of the upper chambers (atria) of the heart
cardiogenic Shock
shock resulting from the diminishment of cardiac output
cardioversion
the restoration of the sinus rhythm by electrical shock
defibrillation
electrical termination of fibrillation
fibrillation
irregular, totally disorganized electrical activity of the atria or ventricles or both
manual external defibrillator
used by healthcare professionals with a electrocardiogram to determine the voltage and timing of the electrical shock, 2000 to 4,000 volts
manual internal defibrillators
used primarily in operating rooms during open heart procedures, output is limited to 50 joules
Sync Cardioversion
delivery of a low energy shock which is timed or synchronized to be delivered at a specific point in the QRS complex, uses a discharge of 25-100 joules to correct ventricular tachycardia and atrial flutter, uses R wave as a timing reference and must occur within 30msec of the R wave
