Defibrillation pad application technique – Adult. Flashcards
- At what location should the “Apex” pad be placed?
o The Apex pad should be placed on the left, at the mid-axillary line, 6th intercostal space.
- At what location should the “Sternal” pad be placed, and how?
o The Sternal pad should be rolled on laterally from right sternal margin on the patient’s chest.
o The Sternal pad should be placed under the right clavicle and above the right nipple.
- How should feedback devices be applied?
o The feedback device should be first positioned on the anterior median (mid sternal) line. The remaining pad is then rolled laterally ensuring final placement is under the right clavicle and above the right nipple.
- What should be done if the Sternal pad is not in the correct position with the feedback device attached?
o The Sternal pad may be separated to facilitate accurate placement.
- Why should the pads be applied in a rolling motion?
o Pads are applied in a rolling motion to prevent air pockets from forming.
- If patients are thinly built what modification should be done?
o The pads should be smoothed into the intercostal spaces.
- What is the best method to ensure adequate adhesion of the electrode pads?
o Apply gentle pressure over the entire surface of the gel and adhesive ring to ensure adhesion.
