Deffinitions Flashcards
Dessert
An extremely dry area with little water and few plants.
Abiotic and biotic
Biotic is the living features in an ecosystem and abiotic is the non-living features in an ecosystem.
Consumer, first consumer and secondary consumer
A producer makes its own food from the sun via the chemical reaction of photosynthesis. A consumer obtains energy by feeding on other organisms and a secondary consumer eats primary consumers and a primary consumer eats producers.
Ecosystem
A word used to describe a particular environment and all the living things surrounding it.
Environment
All the living and non-living things that surround and organism.
Ectothermic
Means an animal must obtain heat from there environment not internally.
Food chain
Diagram showing a sequence of organisms feeding on each other.
Why is water important for organisms?
Water is essential for all living organisms. It is the solvent for all materials in cells and allows chemical reaction to take place.
Addaption
Any feature that assists in the survival of an organisms these are classified as behavioural and functional and structural.
Ecology
The study of how living organisms interact with each other and there environment.
Endoghermic
Endothermic is when an organism can generate heat internally and can control heat loss.
Endoghermic
Endothermic is when an organism can generate heat internally and can control heat loss.
Functional
Feature of the way an organisms body works. Example: When a bat flys, it’s heat beats faster so more blood can be supplied to muscles.
Behavioral
Action or feature the organisms display.
Food web
Shows the relationship between many different food chains in a single ecosystem.
