Defensive Zones Flashcards
What is an arrowhead zone?
An arrowhead zone is a defensive structure which forces the offence to swing the disc side to side instead of making progress upfield.
What roles are there in an arrowhead zone?
A puppy (or tip of the arrow), 2x ears/phalanges, 2x wing positions, a heart and a deep position.
What is the role of the puppy in an arrowhead zone.
To establish a flat defence on the player with disc. If/when the disc is thrown, they will chase the disc and establish a defence on that player.
What is the role of the 2x ears/phalanges?
To establish a flat force either side of the arrow tip/puppy. Their role is to cut off options up the middle of the field.
NB: this position must be at least three metres away from the player with the disc or else this is a “double team”.
What is the role of a wing in an arrowhead zone?
To stop passes up the sideline.
