Laurie Penny, columnist for New York Statesman tweeted about war memorial to the women of WW2 being vandalised with words “fuck Tory scum” being written on it
Penny tweeted from her acc that she didn’t have a problem with vandalism as a form of protest
Katie Hopkins (fair right) confused Penny with Jack Monroe and tweeted to her “scrawled in any war memorials recently”
Jack Monroe replies to tweet and demanded 5k from Hopkins for migrant charity and threatened with libel action if she didn’t pay up
Hopkins didn’t pay, Monroe sues for defamation, said she received death threats, damaged reputation etc
Judge ruled Monroe pay 24k damages, plus both court costs, ended up being about 300k
