The nuclear family is also called the immediate family.
Nuclear families
consist of two or more nuclear families living under the same roof. An extended family or joint families consist of the father, mother, daughters, sons, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Extended families
consists of a father, a mother, and unmarried children who are not yet adults.
conjugal family
is the family of close relatives other than the parents and children.
consanguineal family
is a type of relationship system in which the family membership is traced through one’s father’s lineage.
Patrilineal family
on the other hand, is a type of relationship system in which the family connection is tracked through the mother’s ancestry.
matrilineal family
a type of relationship arrangement in which a person’s family membership is traced through both parents’ linkages.
A bilateral family
the residence is near or with the male’s family after marriage
patrilocal family
the family resides near or with the female’s family after marriage
matrilocal family
the couple lives near or in the groom’s maternal uncle’s home
avunculocal family
the family resides near or with the male’s or female’s family
ambilocal family
the couple chooses to live on their own after marriage. The residence is neutral and away from both sides of the family.
a neolocal family
the father enjoys full authority and controls the property of the family.
patriarchal family
the mother has the authority. She is the owner of the property and rules over the family.
matriarchal family
the husband is generally regarded as the head, but the wife is incharge of the money and organization of the house and its affairs. This is how most Filipino families are classified.
