Obturator internus
origin from portions of ilium and ischium
insert on medial aspect of trochanter
action: lateral rotation and hip stabilization
Obturator externus
origin from the external surface of the obturator membrane and passes posterior to the femoral neck
inserts onto the medial surface of the greater trochanter
action: lateral rotation
Gemellus superior
small muscle located above and below the distal borders of the obturator internus
action: lateral rotation and hip stabilization
Gemellus inferior
small muscle located above and below the distal borders of the obturator internus
action: lateral rotation and hip stabilization
Quadratus femoris
origin from the lateral ischium and attaches to the posterior aspect of the greater trochanter
action: lateral rotation and hip stabilization
Piriformis
origin on the anterior sacrum (2-4)
insert on top of greater trohanter
action: laterally rotates thigh abduction of thigh
