Deep Muscles Flashcards
Deep Muscles of the Posterior Trunk
- Intertransverse
- Interspinalis
- Transversospinalis
Intertransverse
connects one transverse process to the next
action: side bending or lateral flexion of the spine
Interspinalis
connects adjacent spinous processes
action: extension of the spine
Transversospinalis
runs superomedially from one transverse process to the next spinous process
3 subdivisions:
Semispinalis
Multifidus
Rotators
Semispinalis
spans 5-6 vertebral levels
Multifidus
spans 3 levels and are deeper than semispinalis
Rotators
span a single, level and are deeper than the other two
Deep Muscles of the Neck
- Rectus capitus posterior minor
- Rectus capitus posterior major
- Obliqous captius superior
- Obliqous capitus inferior
Rectus capitus posterior minor
runs from the posterior arch of C1 to the inferior occipital
Rectus capitus posterior major
runs from the spinous process of C2 and inserts just lateral to the rectus captius posterior minor
Obliqous captius superior
runs from the transverse process of C1 and inserts on the occiput lateral to rectus captius posterior major
Obliqous capitus inferior
runs from the spinous process of C2 to the transverse process of C1
