Deep Layer Of Intrinsic Back Muscles (tranversospinales) Flashcards
Semispinalis insertion
Occipital bone and spinous processes of in upper thoracic and cervical regions spanning 4-6 regions
Semispinalis origin
Transverse processes of C4-T10
Semispinalis main actions
Extends head and thoracic and cervical regions of vertebral column and rotates them contralaterally
Multifidus origin
Superior posterior iliac spine, posterior sacrum, aponeurosis of erector spinae, sacro-iliac ligaments, mammillary bodies of lumbar vertebrae, transverse processes of thoracic vertebrae and articular processes of C4- C7
Multifidus insertion
Entire length of spinous processes 2-4 segments above origin
Multifidus main actions
Unilateral contraction: rotates to contralateral side, stabilizes column locally during movement
Rotatores origin
Transverse processes of vertebrae
Rotatores insertion
Junction of lamina and transverse processes on one above (brevis) or 2 segments above (longus)
Rotatores main action
May function as organ of propioception, possibly stabilize vertebrae and assist in rotating
