Deep And Intermediate Back Flashcards
Splenius Origin
Arises from nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7-T6
Splenius Insertion
Splenius Capitus Fibers run superiorlaterally to mastoid process of temporal bone and lateral 1/3 of superior nuchal line of occipital bone
Splenius Cervicis: tubercles of transverse processes of C1-C3
Splenius capitus/cervicis inneravation
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
Splenius Capitis/Cervicis Action
Actions alone: Laterally flexes neck and rotates head to side of active muscle
Actions together: Extend head and Neck
Illiocostalis Longissimus Spinalis Origin
Broad tendon from posterior part of illiac crest
Posterior Surface of Sacrum
Sacro-Illiac ligaments
Sacral inferior lumbar spinous processes
Supraspinous Ligament
Illiocostalis insertion
Illiocostalis inserts superiorly to angles of lower ribs and cervical transverse processes
Longissimus Insertion
Fibers run superiorly to ribs between tubercles and angles to transverse processes in thoracic and cervical regions
mastoid process of temporal bone
Spinalis Insertion
Fibers run superiorly to spinous processes in upper thoracic region and to cranium
Main actions of Illiocostalis Longissimus Spinalis
Acting bilaterally: Extend vertebral column and heads, control movement as back is flexed by lengthening their fibers
Unilateral action: Laterally flex vertebral column
Semispinalis regions
Thoracis, Cervicis, Capitis
Semispinalis origin
Transverse process of C4-T10 Vertebrae
Semispinalis Insertion
Runs superomediallu to occipital bone and spinous processes in upper thoracic and cervical regions
Semispinalis action
Extends head and thoracic and cervical regions of vertebral column
Rotates them conrtalaterally
Multifidus Origin
Arises from posterior sacrum, posterior iliac spine, aponeurosis of erector spinal, sacro-iliac ligament
Multifidus Insertion
Thickest in lumbar region, fibers pass obliquely superomedially to entire length of spinous process of vertebrae
