What is a contra-indication?
A reason why the service CANNOT go ahead.

Why is a pre perm test curl carried out?
To determine how well the hair will curl, development time and rod size.
When and why would you carry out a pre perm test curl?
Before perming. Usually done if you are unsure how the hair will respond to the perm service (over coloured hair).
What is a development test curl?
To see how well the perm is developing.
What is the pH of an acid perm?
6-7
What is the pH of an alkaline perm?
9.5
Which type of perm works best with added heat?
Acid perm
Which type of perm give a more firmer curl and is best used on resistant hair?
Alkaline perm
When is it recommended to use pre damping (winding on lotion)?
When the hair is very resistant or very long.
What is post dampening?
Winding on water. Perm solution is applied after all the rods have been put in. Most common technique.
What are the different winding techniques used when perming?
Brick wind. Directional. 9 section wind.
What part of the hair structure if affected when perming?
Cuticle and cortex

Di-sulphide bonds
