Define Decisive Action: Offense
Offensive actions are combat operations conducted to defeat and destroy enemy forces and seize terrain, resources, and population centers. They impose the commander’s will on the enemy.
Explain: 4 Primary Offensive Tasks
The four primary offensive tasks are Movement to Contact, Attack, Pursuit and Exploitation.
Explain: 4 Offensive Characteristics
There are four Characteristics of the offense which are Concentration, Audacity, Rapid Tempo, Surprise
Elaborate: Movement to contact
Movement to contact has two forms that are designed to develop the situation and to establish or regain contact
Elaborate: Attack
Attack has six forms that destroys or defeats enemy forces to seizes and secures terrain, or both.
Elaborate: Pursuit
Pursuit is an offensive task designed to catch or cut off a hostile force attempting to escape, with the aim of destroying it.
Elaborate: Exploitation
Exploitation is an offensive task that usually follows the conduct of a successful attack and is designed to disorganize the enemy.
Elaborate: Concentration
Concentration: massing of overwhelming effects of combat power to achieve a single purpose
Elaborate: Audacity
Audacity is boldly executing a simple plan of action
Elaborate: Rapid Tempo
Rapid Tempo is controlling or altering tempo to retain the initiative.
Elaborate: Surprise
Surprise is attacking the enemy when they are not expecting and are not prepared for.
