Habitually argumentative.

Counter balance the bad things.
Apogee
Арогей.
Apogee of one’s career.
Engender
To give rise to. Bring something into existence.
This controversy has engendered a lot of anger from both sides.
Sully
To stain something.
Someone’s standing in the community has been sullied by the allegation.
On GRE to ruin someone’s reputation.
Elicit
To draw out/bring out an emotion or a respond.
He elicited anger.
Illicit - means illegal.
Evince
Exhibiting/showing/indicating certain quality.
Indolent
Lazy.
Maintain
To assert something
I believe this is the case = I maintain that this is the case.
Check
Keep them in check. Meaning hold them back. Limit them.
Qualify
To take a statement and restrict the extent of it.
Wanting
Lacking
Illusory vs elusive
Illusory - exists in imagination.
Elusive - something that is difficult to pin down or capture.
Ex. Big foot is elusive. No one was able to find him.
Sanctimonious v sacrosanct
Sanctimonious - they are trying to be more holly or religious then everyone else.
With negative connotation.
Sacrosanct - something holly or sacred.
Ex. Bible is sacrosanct.
Providence v provenance
Providence - you plan ahead for the future. Prudent.
Provenance - origine of something.
