Dec 6 - Cardiovascular Drug Flashcards
Controlled by ANS
Heart Rate
determined by myocardial contractility, cardiac afterload, and cardiac preload
Stroke Volume
amount of tension or stretch applied to a muscle before contraction = force of venous return
Preload
load against which a muscle exerts its force = arterial pressure that the left ventricle overcomes to eject blood
afterload
Defined as persistent systolic pressure of 140 mmHg and/or a diastolic pressure of greater than 90 mmHg
Major risk for CAD, CVD and death
Hypertension
Determine by the product of cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance
blood pressure
amount f blood ejected from the left ventricle and measured in lpm
Cardiac output
Resistance to blood flow that is determined by the diameter of the blood vessels and vascular musculature
Systemic Vascular resistance
reduction of cardiovascular and renal morbidity and mortality
goal of anti-hypersensitive theraphy
drugs that accelerate the rate of urine formation that results to the removal of sodium and water from the body
Diuretics
