What are the six ethical guidelines?
Consent, Withdrawal, Deception, Protection from harm, Confidentiality, Debriefing
What is the additional point that applies?
Observational research- participants should only be observed in places where they could reasonably expect to be observed.
Broader ethical principles?
Respect, Competence, Responsibility, Integrity
Benefits of the research being ethical?
It makes replication of the study possible. It avoids participants leaving the study in a worse state than they entered it.
Drawbacks of the research being ethical?
Sampling bias can be a problem if participants are able to withdraw, It can reduce the reliability of the study if participants know the aim
What is the situational explanation?
Suggests that behaviour is best explained by reference to the situation or circumstances a person is in (external factors)
What is the individual explanation?
Suggests that behaviour is best explained as arising from a person’s own personality or characteristics (internal factors)
