Death And The Maiden Flashcards
The maiden accepts death
The other dancers are stood in a semi circle around death and the maiden facing out. They then swipe their arm down, alternating which one they use and then turn towards that arm with it spiralling above their heads. They then throw their arm down and contract their upper body.
Meanwhile death lifts the maiden and drapes her over his back. They are moving in slow motion compared to the other dancers quick movements
Death is killing the maiden
They are centre stage facing diagonally downstage left. He is behind her and grans her upper arm causing her to contract slightly and lift her arm. Death leans back removing his hand and bringings them above his head to hit the maiden on her right side. She tilts her head back and lifts her arm up to fall forward onto the floor taking two steps. Death then moves behind her and picks her up by her left arm he then hits her on the neck
All the dancers contracting at the beginning
All the dancers are standing facing diagonally towards downstage right. They have their left leg in front in
a lung and their right arm straight out in front, left ram behind body contracted over. On three beats in the
music they make three jutting movements to an upright position. They then jump to second to face the
audience and turn towards the back before taking a large step to stage left and putting their right leg
behind throwing their arms down to stage left.
Female dancers lyrical section
Female dancers lay on the floor with arms up and flexed arms, knees slightly bent. They contact their bodies as the male dancers move closer and then role to face the back. They lay on their side with their right arm up above their head. Then they role to the font and crouch with their left knee up left arm up as
if hiding. They then stand to a kneel and stretch their left arm to the side, right arm across their bodyhands flexed. Finally they stand up and run around their male partner with arms in the same position
