Resurrection
Living on after death in a glorified physical form in a new realm (a resurrection world)
Beatific Vision
A state of everlasting bliss in the presence of God – a face to face encounter with God
Purgatory
A place or state of cleansing and purifying from sin; preparing for heaven
Election
Out of God’s grace, who He will choose to be saved and rewarded in the afterlife (Pre-destination)
Limited election
God only chooses a small number of people for heaven
Unlimited election
All people are called to salvation but only a few will be saved (or respond)
Universalism
All people will be saved and/or a restoration of the world to its pre-Fall state
Parable
A story used to illustrate a religious truth or moral principle
Particular Judgement
Judgement by God of each individual person at the point of death
General Judgement
Judgement by God of all peoples at the end of old world order/time.
Parousia
The second coming (return) of Jesus Christ
Disembodied Existence
An existence after death that does not require a body
Eschatology
‘Discussion about the last things’ – the end times
The Kingdom of God
Describes God’s rule or reign – in this world and/or in the next world (heaven)
