how does tybalt contribute to death

A
  • “i hate hell, all mantagues and thee”, strong aggression, allconsuming hatred that makes him seek death with montagues
  • tybalt escalates conflicts and death as he kills mercutio that is the turning points
  • he embraces death calling romeo a “villain” - he is all violent as he embodies the fueds desturctive power that pushes the play towards its tragic end

how does mercutio show death

A
  • at first is a comic figure but he shifts towards violence and death in the play
  • tempts tyblat = “make it a word and a blow” = making fun of tybalt
  • “o calm, disshonourbale vile submission” = “vile”, goes against peace, “disshonourable” = he is not defending thier honour and is insulting his best friends
    -> “a plague…”
  • escalates violence - provokes tybalt and mocks him which leads to his death and the turning point
  • “ask for me tomorrow and you shall find me a grave man” = mercutio is humerous, “grave” meaning serious and death, refuses to let death defeat his sense of humour
