De-Ice 2013 Flashcards
LOUT
Lowest Operational Use Temperature
Higher of:
The lowest temperature that provides protection for aerodynamic tests
The Actual Freezing Point of the fluid plus a 7 degree C buffer for Type IV or 10 degree buffer for Type I
Pre Takeoff Check
Done within the HOT just prior to takeoff.
Pre Takeoff Contamination Check
Done in operations in Heavy Snow or anytime the HOT has been exceeded. Must be completed within 5 minutes prior to Takeoff
Icing Conditions may exist below 10 degrees C
Moisture on the wing
Wing fuel is 0 degrees C and less
Dew Point Spread less than 3 degrees
Cold Weather Inspection must be completed… ?
When the outside air temp is 5 degrees C or less.
Wing fuel bulk temp is 0 degrees C or less.
Remained overnight with exposure to conditions
Cold Soak Ice is suspected
Accumulated Ice on the inbound flight
Cold Soaked Fuel is in contact with the wing when the fuel quantity is above… ?
2297.2 lbs.
2300 lbs
Frost on the underside of the wing acceptable within what limits
Maximum of 1/8th inch.
Fluid Freeze buffer if Type I is the only deice fluid used
Buffer of 10 degrees C
Is the Pre Takeoff Contamination Check authorized for the CRJ 200
No… only the CRJ 700 / 900
Pre Takeoff Contamination Check required when…
HOT has been exceeded
HOT is no longer valid due to changing conditions
Operations in Heavy Snow Conducted
Is the upper surface of the fuselage on the CRJ 200 considered a critical surface?
Yes… but thin frost is authorized as long as able to distinguish surface features underneath.
Is the upper surface of the CRJ 700/900 a critical surface?
No… but same limitation as with the CRJ 200
If not, it must be deiced with Type I with no HOT
Can the HOT be extended by a pre takeoff contamination check if operating in Ice Pellets?
NO
If Ice Pellet Precipitation stops, takeoff is authorized up to
90 minutes as long as temperature remains constant or increases.
If Temperature decreases, takeoff is not authorized.
Is takeoff authorized in Heavy Ice Pellet Precipitation
NO… Moderate and below is the limitation in Ice Pellets.
