De Girolamo 1 Flashcards
What did Griffith do?
Bacterial transformation experiment
What was the conclusion of the bacterial transformation experiment?
Genetic material from the heat killed S type has been transferred to living R type and provided a new trait
What’s the interpretation of the bacterial transformation experiment?
Something in the virulent S strain could transform non virulent R strain into a lethal form, even when killed
What’s DNA replication?
DNA unwinds to form 2 replication forks (bidirectional replication)
What happens in initiation and unwinding?
- assembly of rep. Fork
- recruits dnaA and dnaB and DNA primase
- helicase bound to protein (dnaC) which is released, helicase starts to unwind
What’s primosome synthesis?
Protein assembly which involves helicase and primase
Primase adds the nucleotides
Produces RNA segment
What does DNA helicase do?
Break H bonds
SSB protein?
Single stranded binding protein
Function:stop the unwinding of DNA from rejoining
Topoisomerase?
DNA gyrase
Reduce the torsional strain caused by the unwinding of the double helix
What did chargaff suggest?
That DNA was made up of equal quantities of purines and pyrimidines
What did rosalin Franklin suggest?
X Ray differentiation suggested there was a helical structure
4 required properties
VIRT Variation-phenotype variation Infomation-must contain information necessary to construct an entire organism Replication Transmission
