1920s Red scare vs 1950s Red scare
The Red Scare of the 1920s targeted immigrants, labor unions, and political radicals, fueled by fear of communism revolutions in Russia. The 1950s Red Scare, led by Senator Joseph McCarthy, targeted government employees, Hollywood figures, and others accused of being communist sympathizers. Both periods resulted in erosion of civil liberties, but the 1950s Red Scare ultimately lost momentum after McCarthy’s accusations were discredited.

The 1950s civil rights movement was more focused on desegregation and issues with racism. It gained momuntum through events like the Bus boycotts, the Greensboro sit ins, MLK’s movement and other examples. One notable achievement was the supreme courts decision Brown vs Board of Education with ruled segeregation unconstitutional.
How did Hispanics and Natives fight for equality?
Hispanics organized many labor unions and Cesar Chavez ended up organizing the United Farm Workers which ended up being the largest labor union in the country. Native Americans saw success in the Indian Civil Rights Act which guaranteed Native American rights, this was passed in 1968. Their movements protested better working or living conditions as well as rights.Mendez vs Westminister also ruled segregations of Mexicans unconstitunional in California in 1947.

1968 was a turbulant year since MLK got assasinated in that year and so did Robert F Kennedy (JFK’s Brother). The Tet Offensive also took place in vietnam which was a surprise attack by the North Vietnamese on South Vietnamese. Riots at the DNC also took place that year.

LBJ’s great society proposed ideas to better the population. These included the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the voting rights act, and the creation of medicare and medicaid. These laws fought racial injustice, poverty healthcare access, etc.

Watergate was a political scanadal that involved Nixon and his administration. They attempted to cover up a break in at the DNC, they attempeted to spy on the oppositions plans and Nixon denied any involvement with the event. Later recordings came out that Nixon was involved and lied to the American people and this led to Nixon resigning and the trust of the americans to their president to fade.
