DCS Components Flashcards
Algorithm
refers to a code that performs a certain task
Backbone
a high speed network channel designed to connect multiple networks together.
Cloud-based storage
Records are kept on remote servers and accessed through the Internet.
Encyrption
A security measure against data interception in which data is turned into an unreadable form.
Enterprise Level
technology designed to facilitate large scale planning and decision making.
Field Device
Sensor or actuator that interacts directly with the process. are at the bottom of the DCS hierarchy.
Firewall
a part of a computer system or network that is designed to block unauthorized access while permitting outward communication.
Gateway
A network device that translates from one type physical layer and/or protocol to another. Allow normally incompatible devices to communicate.
Historian
program that keeps record of trends for later analysis
Network Switch
a kind of network hub to which many devices connect . perform intelligent traffic management, channeling data between their ports based on hardware addresses.
Partitioning
dividing process I/O across multiple
drops or I/O cards in order to prevent a failure from causing a shutdown.
Patch
A general software security update intended to cover vulnerabilities that have been discovered.
Permissive
a condition in a control system that must be met before an action can occur.
RAID array
Stands for “ Redundant Array of Independent Disks” a group of hard drives acting as a unit in order to performand/or provide error correction and redundancy.
real time
A computer system that responds with minimal and predictable delays to events as they happen . Critical control systems must be in real time.
