DCIS Flashcards
DCIS.
DCIS
Definition of DCIS
Clonal proliferation of malignant epithelial cells in terminal duct lobular unit without invasion of basement membrane
What is the comedo form of DCIS?
Comedo: Central necrosis in duct lumen surrounded by pleomorphic cells with high-grade nuclei
What stage is Paget disease of the breast?
Stage 0 because technically it is DCIS so it is confined to the ducts and does not disrupt the basement membrane
most common distribution of calcs in DCIS
**grouped!!
Calc distribution most suggestive of DCIS
linear or segmental
(most specific for DCIS, but not the most common presentation)
MRI enhancement pattern for DCIS
linear, ductal or segmental clumped nonmass enhancement most common
●Form of DCIS that infiltrates the epidermis of the nipple
●Patients present with nipple erythema, ulceration, and eczematoid changes of the nipple
Two types of DCIS
●Comedo - large cell: more aggressive form; also referred to as comedocarcinoma
●Non-comedo - small cell: less aggressive; can be further divided into:
○Cribriform
○Micropapillary
○Papillary
○solid
Comedo subtype
●large cell: more aggressive form; also referred to as comedocarcinoma
Non-comedo subtype
●small cell: less aggressive; can be further divided into:
○Cribriform
○Micropapillary
○Papillary
○solid
Which DCIS subtype is less aggressive?
Non-comedo
DCIS on US. ectactic ducts filled with debris and calcifications
