Day 9 - Balancing Chemical Equation Flashcards
What are the different processes in balancing equation?
Combination or Synthesis
Decomposition
Substitution
Double Replacement
It is the process when 2 or more substance form a single or more complex compound
A+B=AB
Composition or Synthesis
It is the breakdown of a complex compound producing 2 or more simple substances. It is usually heat, light or electricity.
AB= A+B
Decomposition
This is the replacement of a less active element by a more active element
CH3Cl + -OH = CH3OH + Cl-
Substitution
It is the exchange of ions by 2 compounds or reactants
AY + BX = AX + BY
Double replacement
Balance the equation and identify what process
Fe+Cl2 = FeCl3
2Fe+3Cl2 = 2FeCl3
Composition
Balance the equation and identify what process
Fe+O2=Fe2O3
4Fe+3O2=2Fe2O3
Balance the equation and identify what process
FeBr3+H2SO4=Fe2(SO4)3+HBr
2FeBr3+3H2SO4=Fe2(SO4)3+6HBr
Double replacement
Balance the equation and identify what process
C7H16+O2=CO2+H2O
C7H16+11O2=7CO2+8H2O
Double Replacement
