Day 6 - Isotopic Symbol and Ionic Notation Flashcards
This is the code for a chemical element and consists of 1 or 2 letters either greek or latin
Symbol
How many letters in a symbol is assigned if its temporary or to newly synthesized or not yet synthesized element?
3 letters
Uno is for what?
It is for a temporary symbol of hassium
What are the components in an element of the periodic table
Nucleon Number or Mass Number Proton Number or Atomic Number Ionization Number of Atoms Radical indicated by a dot
It is the left superscript and it may have “m” or “f” which is stand for nuclear isomer. Atomic plus Neutron
Nucleon Number
It is in the left subscript which indicates the change of the number of nucleons in a nuclear reaction or the number of Protons
Proton Number or Atomic Number
It is found at the right superscript and it indicates the charge of an element
Ionization
It is at the right subscript and it is usually 1 because in an element there is 1 atom of that kind
Number of Atoms
It is often omitted and it is deducible from the charge. It is true for non-bonded covalent
Radical Indicated by a dot
What is the postulate of Dalton’s Atomic Theory
All atoms of an element are identical but not identical in all aspects
1. Mass of atom
2. Atoms of the same element has different Mass (Isotope)
3. Isotope - diff. number of neurons and it is identified by a mass number
4. Atoms gain charges
Ion - lose or gain an atom
Neutral - no. of electrons = No. of protons
It is a neutral element if?
Electrons = Protons
It is when electrons are removed from a neutral charge
Cation (+)
It is when an element gains an electron
Anion (-)
