Describe a papule. Describe a plaque.
A papule is a solid elevation or change in skin thickness or texture bigger than 1 cm. A plaque is the same thing but less than 1 cm.
Describe a wheal.
A type of papule or plaque that is a flat-topped firm elevation of the skin with a well demarcated margin. They result from edema or the superficial dermis.
Describe a nodule.
A solid, deep-seated mass sometimes in dermal or subcutaneous tissues usually producing visible elevation.
Describe a macule. Describe a patch.
A macule is an alteration in skin color without change in texture or thickness bigger than 1 cm. A patch is the same but less than 1 cm.
Describe a vesicle, bulla, and pustule.
A vesicle is a visible accumulation of clear fluid in or just below the epidermis smaller than 5 mm. A bulla is bigger than 5 mm. A pustule contains opaque, purulent fluid.
Describe erosions and ulcers.
An erosion is a moist, circumscribed loss or partial or full thickness epidermis; can be a ruptured vesicle. An ulcer is a deeper erosion of some or all of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue.
