Q

Define clearance limit

A

A clearance ilimit is the point to which an a/c is granted an ATC clearance and shall be specified by naming;

an a/d
a reporting point
a controlled or advisory airspace boundary

Q

When shall an a/c be cleared for its entire route?

A

it is planned to remain within controlled or advisory airspace throughout the flight and
There is reasonable assurance that prior coordination will be effected ahead of the a/c

6
Q

Rules on amendments to clearance

A

When a clearance is amended a new clearance must be issued

Pilots receive new clearance in full, the new clearance automatically cancels the old one

Controllers must ensure separation when the new clearance alters SID profile

If the SID route is altered the level profile is to be included in the clearance

Q

Withholding clearance

A

Aerodrome Authority and certain other persons are empowered to prohibit flight and may instruct ATC to withhold a clearance. These persons are listed in unit instructions.

8
Q

If ATC believe that a planned flight is liable to endanger life or involve a breach of legislation he/she is to:

A

Warn the pilot and obtain acknowledgement
Inform the pilot that the appropriate authority will be informed
The pilot may still elect to depart but phraseology is
‘there are no traffic reasons to restrict take off’

Q

Define runway end safety area

A

an area symmetrical about the extended runway centreline and adjacent to the end of the strip primarily intended to reduce the risk of damage to an aeroplane undershooting or over running the runway

Q

RESA length

A

Depends on A/C type, level of a/c activity, local condidtions.

For a code 3/4 runway minimum 90M recommeneded 240M

Q

Taxi way width

A

A straight portion of the taxiway should have a width of not less than 23m when the code is E or D and the taxiway is intended for use by a/c with outer main gear span of 9m or more

Q

Define taxiway strip

A

An area of specified dimensions enclosing a taxiway and intended to protect a/c operating on the taxiway and to reduce the risk of damage to an a/c running of the taxiway

16
Q

Taxiway holding bays and holding positions location

A

Not to be located closer to the edge of the runway centreline than the relative graded area of the runway.

On precision app rwy this may be increased to avoid;

Interference with radio aids
penetration of the obstacle free zone by a holding a/c
a holding a/c being accountable in the calculation of obstacle clearance altitude/height (OCA/H)

17
Q

Define obstacle free zone

A

A volume of airspace extending upwards and outwards from an inner portion of the runway strip to a specified upper limits which is kept free of all obstructions except for minor specified items

18
Q

Define TORA

A

This is the length of runway available and suitable for the ground run of an aeroplane taking off.

19
Q

Define ASDA

A

Accelerate stop distance available this is the length of the TORA plus the length of any associated stopway

20
Q

TODA

A

Take off distance available the length of the TORA plus the length of any associated clearway

21
Q

LDA

A

This is the length of the runway available and suitable for the ground landing run of an aeroplane

22
Q

What is PCN

A

a number expressing the bearing strength of a pavement for unrestricted operations

23
Q

What is ACN

A

Aircraft classification number

is a a number expressing the relative effect of an a/c load on a pavement for a specified sub grade

24
Q

TH markings

RWY designator in side piano keys…

A

Non precision instrument RWY
Long Non instrument RWY LDA>1200m
Where TH requires emphasis

25
Q

TH marking rwy designator infront of piano keys

A

Precision rwys

26
Q

RWYS with aiming point and td markers…

A

All precision and ILS equipped RWY
Other runways if conspicuity needed
paved non instrument rwys where there is no approach slope guidance

27
Q

RWYS with edge markingg

A

All precision app runways

any rwy with insufficient contrast between the rwy and shoulders
