16
Q

Define manoeuvring area

A

The part of the aerodrome provided for the t/o and landing of a/c and for the movement of a/c on the surface EXCLUDING the apron and maintenance area

17
Q

Define movement area

A

The part of the aerodrome intended for the surface movement of a/c INCLUDING the man area, apron, maintenance area

18
Q

ARP

A

Aerodrome reference point - geographical location of aerodrome and centre of the ATZ.

WIP given as a bearing and distance from the ARP

19
Q

Define NON instrument runway

A

A RWY intended for the operation of A?C using visual app procedures

20
Q

Define instrument RWY

A

A RWY intended for the operation of a/c using NON VISUAL aids providing at least direction guidance in azimuth adequate for a straight in approach

21
Q

Precision instrument APP RWY

A

An instrument rwy intended for the operation of a/c using precision instrument app aids that meet the requirements for that Cat of ops

A?C has electronic instrumented guidance in azimuth and glideslope

22
Q

Non Precision App RWY

A

An instrument RWY served by visual aids and non visual aids providing at least directional guidance adequate for a straight in app.

23
Q

Aerodrome reference code

Element 1

A

Number determined by selecting the higher of the TODA or ASDA

4 is 1800m and over

24
Q

Aerodrome reference code

Element 2

A

letter which corresponds to the wingspan or outer main gear wheel span whichever is more demanding of the largest a/c likely to operate at an aerodrome

E wingspan 52m up to but not icluding 65M or Wheel span 9m up to but not including 14m

F above the figures for E

25
Q

Minimum rwy width for 4E

A

45m

26
Q

Runway surfaces

Principle requirements

A

Provide sufficient surface friction level

Provide a hard and durable surfsce that will not generate loose materials or contaminents

Provide good surface water drainage

Provide a suitable PCN

Avoid excessive tyre wear

27
Q

Types of RWY SFC

A

Porous friction course

Pavement quality concrete

Asphalt (grooved)

28
Q

Define Starter extension

A

Where additional runway distances are required for take off these may be achieved by adding a starter extension to the beginning of the runway.

Normally full width but provided the length is not more than 150 m its width may be reduced to not less than 2/3

29
Q

Define turning area

A

Where the end of the RWY is not served by a taxiway a rwy turn pad should be provided to facilitate a 180 degree turn

30
Q

define runway shoulder

A

An area adjacent to the edge of a paved surface so prepared as to provide a transition between the pavement and the adjacent surface for a/c running of the pavement

31
Q

Runway shoulders should….

A

Be provided for rwys where the code letter is D or E unless width is already 60m or more

Extend symmetrically on each side of the rwy so that the overall width of the rwy plus shoulders is not less than 60m

be capable of supporting aeroplanes using the rwy without causing structural damage

32
Q

Define RWY strip

A

an area of specified dimensions enclosing a rwy intended to reduce the risk of damage to an a/c running off the rwy and to protect a/c flying over it when t/o and landing

33
Q

The purpose of the Rwy strip is to…

A

A) reduce the risk of damage to an aeroplane running off the rwy by providing a graded area which meets specified logtiduninal and transverse slopes and bearing strenght requirements

B) protect aeroplanes flying over during landing and t/o by providing an area which is cleared of obstacles except permitted aids to navigation

34
Q

RWY strip permitted aids

A

Must be frangible

Height must be kept to min necessary for the particular site and function of the equipment

if in the CGA not more than 0.9M AGL and not closer than 15M from the rwy edge

App lights / PAPIs/ ILS glidepath

35
Q

RWY Strip dimensions for Cat 4 instrument RWY

A

Rectangle
150m either side of centreline
60m from either side of RWY

36
Q

Define CGA

A

Provides a delethalised area - minimal damage to an a/c in the event of leaving the rwy

Nothing apart from essential equipment allowed

Dimensions determined by CAP168
Different widths for precision and non-precision rwy
Must be capable of supporting the a/c using the rwy
All rwy holding points are located outside the CGA

37
Q

Wessex CGA 26/08

A

105m eith side of rwy centreline
60m from each end of rwy
from the 60m point first 150 M is 75m wide each side of extended centreline
next 150m the width extends from 75m to 105m

38
Q

Define stopway

A

A stopway is an area on the ground beyond the TORA which is prepared and designated as a suitable area in which an a/c can be stopped in the event of an abandoned t/o

Designated for infrequent use
Strong enough to support an a/c using the rwy
Should be the same width as the rwy

39
Q

Define Clearway

A

An area at the end of the TORA selected or prepared as a suitable area over which an aircraft may make a portion of its initial climb to a specified height.

Provide s and area over which an a/c can safely transit from lift off to full climb rate after t/o which is free from obstacles which may cause a hazard to a/c in flight.

It may be outside the a/d boundary over land or water
