Day 1 Flashcards
1
Q
What does the CNS contain?
A
- brain
- spinal cord
2
Q
What is in the peripheral nervous system?
A
- cranial nerves (12 pairs, I-XII)
- spinal nerves (31 pairs)
- peripheral ganglia (ganglion, where synapses taking place -> one neuron communicates with another)
3
Q
Gray matter
A
Lots of synapses, where stuff happens (neurons communicating)
4
Q
White matter
A
Neuron fibers/axons, information passing through
5
Q
What does the somatic nervous system entail?
A
- innervates skeletal muscle
- voluntary
- efferent (outgoing from CNS, motor)
- afferent (incoming to the CNS, sensory)
- CNS/PNS
- cholinergic (acetylcholine, excites other neurons)
6
Q
Where do sensory neurons have cell bodies?
A
PNS
7
Q
Where do motor neurons have cell bodies?
A
CNS
8
Q
What does the motor neuron release when it reaches the skeletal muscle?
A
Acetylcholine, excites sensory neuron in muscle
