A

education is based on meritocratic principles & argue that the main function of education is to select & allocate pupils to their future work roles.

sifts & sorts people according to their abilities so that the most able gain the highest qualifications & progress to do the most functionally important jobs in society. Eg doctors, lawyers

These jobs are seen as the most important jobs in society & that is why they are highly rewarded; this in turn gives people the motivation to work hard. Those who are unable to achieve highly in the education system tend to fulfil other necessary jobs in society such as cleaners

society is more productive because both the talented & the less talented end up in their most appropriate jobs & this effective use of ‘human capital’ leads to the successful running of society.
