Reformation Movement – Luther, Calvin and Zwingli

First Great Awakening – John & Charles Wesley (Methodism)

Second Great Awakening or the Restoration, Stone/Campbell, Christian Connection Movement. By 1900’s it had split into Disciples of Christ, Churches of Christ and Conservative Christian Churches.
1800’s
Churches of Christ called by some: “The fastest growing church in America”
1950’s
Bill Bright initiates Campus Crusade at UCLA.
1951
Churches of Christ imitate Campus Crusade with Campus Advance starting at 14th St COC. Chuck Lucas chosen to lead it, new concepts like “soul talks”, “counting the cost” at baptism, “buddy system” called “prayer partners” were innovations. Campus ministers raised up and went to Mainline churches forming the “Crossroads Movement” or “Total Commitment Movement”.
1967
Kip McKean is baptized at the 14th Street Church of Christ.
1972
Elena Garcia-Bengochea (McKean) is baptized at the Crossroads Church of Christ.
1973
Kip marries Elena and they serve as the Campus Ministry Leaders for Heritage Chapel Church of Christ at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. Starting with 7 students they went to 300 in three years.
1976
McKeans go to Lexington COC which eventually is renamed Boston COC. “30 would-be-disciples in the Gempel’s living room” Friday, June 1, _____ These men and women went all around the world. Boston was different because everyone was totally committed.
1979
Chuck Lucas resigns from the ministry leaving the Crossroads Campus Ministries without any direction. By this year, Boston had planted Chicago, London, New York City and Toronto.
1985
Over 2,000 “remnant” young people move to Boston and her plantings from the Crossroads Campus Ministries.
1985-88
Half of Crossroads Ministries undergo reconstruction (call to discipleship) from Boston movement. Around half generally answer the call, and it causes Crossroads to Disfellowship the Boston Movement.
1987-90
World Sector Leaders are selected formally forming a Central Leadership for the Boston Movement. The Mainline Churches of Christ “disfellowshipped” the Boston Movement because
of this new central government.
1988
McKeans move to LA to encourage the young planting. It grows from 154 disciples to 10,000 disciples by 2001.
1990
Moscow is planted by the McKeans and 850 are baptized the first year.
1991
The Boston Movement grows to 142 congregations in 53 nations. The Evangelization Proclamation is written, which pledges the movement to plant discipling churches in every nation with a city of at least 100,000 in population. The name “International Churches of Christ”
is adopted by all Boston Movement Churches.
1994
The Evangelization Proclamation is fulfilled – 392 churches in 171 nations.
2000
McKeans go on Sabbatical and never make another decision for the ICOC.
2001
The November Long Beach Unity Meeting formally sends the ICOC back to Mainline Theology. In fact, signaling this change in doctrine, most ICOC churches change their name to Church of Christ. For example: The “Denver International Church of Christ” changes its name to become the “Denver Church of Christ.”
2002
In February, the “Kreite Letter” decimates the ICOC and the Mckeans are fired in April. In July, they went to Portland
Oregon to a church that went from 300 to 26.
2003
The Portland Church is revived more than any other ICOC church. It becomes the fastest growing and “remnant” go to Portland from 26 different states. At the second Portland Jubilee in August, Mckean “calls out the remnant”. In September, a letter signed by 65 Evangelists and Elders was called “Our Concern for All The Churches”, then another by 85 Evangelists and Elders “disfellowships” the McKeans.
2005
McKeans opposed helping Hilo with Kyle and Joan Bartholomew. In October, they saw “no remedy” and the Portland brothers announced a new movement: Portland movement or the Sold-Out Discipling Movement. It is then named the International Christian Church
2006
The McKeans plant the City of Angels International Christian Church with 42 “sold-out” disciples from Portland.
2007
